France vs Andorra
Date: Tuesday, 10 September 2019
Kick-Off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Stade de France (Paris – Saint-Denis).
The French contingent has learned that no single match can be discounted as unneeded and that each and every point counts, after their surprise road defeat against Turkey. The competition has become more interesting though due to that loss, especially from a neutral standpoint of view.
On paper, with the likes of only Iceland and the Turks gunning for the top tier, the current World Champions are easily the overwhelming favorites. All the three teams are level on 12 points when the qualifiers kick-off on Tuesday, but it’d do them good to avoid any mishaps hereon. And anything short of a top-most finish in the group would be considered embarrassment for the nation.
Just the last international tournament had the squad failing to live up to the expectations they have set up for themselves, after arguably one of the easiest World Cup triumphs a team has enjoyed in recent memory.
In the inaugural Nations League, the French took part in the same mix as that of Germany and Netherlands. Keep in mind that Joachim Low’s men had crashed out of the first round of the tournament. And the Dutch had not even qualified for the same.
Despite supposedly an easier group, Didier Deschamp’s men could not deal with the challenge posted by Holland and had to settle for a second-place finish. As such, a match-up against a minnow as Andorra cannot be taken lightly, and the three points must be ensured at any cost.
So did Deschamp’s men wake up when they welcomed Albania on Saturday and it was an allround performance that earned them a 4-1 win against a hardworking defensive unit.
On the other-hand, Andorra succumbed to a 0-1 defeat at Turkey conceding an 89th minute goal.
